Gardenia by Elżbieta Chowaniec
Odeon Theatre
Country: Romania
Director: Zoltán Balázs
Cast: Antoaneta Zaharia, Paula Niculita, Simona Popescu, Mădălina Ciotea, Constantin Ciubotariu (set), Andrada Chiriac (costumes).
About the performance: Gardenia spans over four generations of women from the same family who face behavioural patterns, constraints, and genetic inheritance. All of them tell their story at the same age, 33, and go through the ramifications of history, starting with the Second World War up to the present day. The times and circumstances conditioned, in part, their destiny, but the one who directly influences them, they would say, is the mother. We’ll let you discover by yourself, to what extent does this happen, in a show where the directorial vision intertwines theatre with opera arias.
About the theater: The Odeon Theatre, one of the most representative repertoire theatres in Bucharest, was founded in 1946 and is subsidized by Bucharest City Hall.
Over time, the theater has participated in numerous international tours and festivals. His repertoire is very diverse and includes classic, modern and contemporary texts by Romanian and foreign authors.
The Odeon Theatre also organizes complementary events aimed at a wide range of spectators and welcomes you to its alternative programs: “Theatre and School”, “Dance at Odeon”, “Odeon Gallery”, “Classic is fantastic”, the European project “Fabulamundi. Playwriting Europe”.
