About the show: “The idea of the play arose in the context of discussions about Russian culture and the responsibility of authors and the impact of their works on mentalities and the formation of social opinion, discussions generated by the war in Ukraine. I believe that not the ban, but, on the contrary, reading, re-reading, accompanied by cold analysis, discussion and reflection on the details, would help us understand what is happening today; and perhaps we would understand why we once again reached the confrontation between two worlds, between two such different models of organization of life and society. For an exercise of this kind I have chosen the fate and work of Mikhail Bulgakov.

After the revolution of 1917, Mikhail Bulgakov remained in Soviet Russia. It wasn’t his choice: because he was sick with typhus and was in a state of unconsciousness, he didn’t get to take refuge abroad, where his brothers and sisters went. When he recovered, he regretted that he had missed this chance and tried to adapt, to integrate into the life proposed by the bolshevik regime. After several attempts to obtain a passport to go abroad and after several publication bans, Bulgakov addressed letters to the leaders of the Soviet state, requesting permission to leave the country. To his amazement, he was contacted by telephone by Stalin himself. Bulgakov did not have the courage to repeat the request on the phone. He allowed himself to be seduced by Stalin’s offer to become the playwright of the Moscow Art Theatre. This time, it was a conscious choice.

What were the consequences for the personal destiny of the intellectual Bulgakov, how it was reflected in his texts and to what extent it gives us a key to answer the questions that loom over us a hundred years away – we try to launch a discussion through this stage version, entitled The Trap after the play The Run by Mikhail Bulgakov.” (Petru Hadârcă) The Trap after the song flight by Mikhail Bulgakov." About the theater: The National Theatre in Chişinău, the first theatrical institution of Romanian expression in Bessarabia and the pilot ship of the cultural space between the Prut and Dniester, whose rightful successor is the current Mihai Eminescu National Theatre in Chişinău, was officially inaugurated on October 6, 1921.

After the annexation of Bessarabia to the USSR on June 28, 1940, the Moldavian State Theatre of the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic was established in Chișinau (since 1954, it was called the Alexander Puşkin State Academic Musical-Dramatic Moldavian Theatre).

The performances of the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre have conquered and continue to conquer the sympathy of the public and the praise of specialized critics at numerous prestigious festivals.

Annually, the Mihai Eminescu National Theatre organizes and conducts the Reunion of Romanian National Theatres, bringing together performances produced by the national theatres of Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
