About the performance: In primitive times, there was a ritual of offering theatre before the gods. That was the incantation play. In the 17th century, the ritual of theatrical performance made it possible for spiritual beings to descend to earth and borrow supernatural powers, and spellbinding became popular. In the medieval world, where science was less developed, there were many states that, although it is hard to believe nowadays, were working on this as national policy. Obonro depicts the bizarre fate of a theatre company that existed in the 1600s, when that spellbinding play was born.
About the theater: Theatre Company Oborno was established in 2006 by Takuma Suehara, as a writer and director, with his friends while he was a student at Waseda University. The show has attracted a lot of attention for its storytelling style and the unique way of expression developed through one-man street theatre, and its audience now numbers up to 4000 people from all over Japan. The company currently has four members, including Takuma Suehara, who is the youngest leader.
Performance: 100 min (without intermission).
